SUEZ releases today its 2023 Sustainable Development Report for Asia. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the Group’s strategic actions and achievements in Asia in the areas of climate, nature, social impact, and innovation, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving sustainable development.

SUEZ, a global leader in circular solutions for water and waste management, announced three new projects in Asia at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), demonstrating its innovative approach to water management in both municipal and industrial sectors. Focusing on digital solutions, seawater desalination and water reuse, these collaborations in Singapore, China and in the Philippines illustrate SUEZ’s commitment to solving critical water issues by enabling communities to adapt to climate impacts with enhanced resilience. This is achieved through strategic partnerships and circular solutions.

During the state visit of Chinese President to France this week, SUEZ has solidified its contribution to the ecological transition by signing three strategic partnerships with Chinese partners: Envision, Chongqing Sanfeng Environment, and Dongguan Water Group. The formalising of these agreements was witnessed by the leaders of the two countries. These three partnerships focus on transforming waste into local and sustainable energy and pioneering electric vehicle battery recycling – key steps in the energy transition of both China and France.

In a landmark collaboration following a competitive bidding process, SUEZ and Maynilad, the Philippines’ largest private water concessionaire, are joining forces to spearhead a transformative wastewater treatment project. This venture, under the auspices of the Philippine Government, aims to dramatically reduce water pollution in Manila Bay. This project will be instrumental in protecting the environment and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

SUEZ, a leading player in water management, recently signed a contract for the Buaran III Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project in Jakarta. The Group will supply key equipment for the water treatment process and will provide technical advisory services for the installation and commissioning of the Buaran III utility. The new WTP in the Indonesian capital will enhance the resilience of the city’s water supply system to provide a safe, reliable, and long-term supply of water to local communities.

In Chongqing, SUEZ is collaborating with its historical partner to enhance the resilience of Chongqing’s water supply system through a new water treatment plant. In Shanghai, the Group is launching its first plastics recovery project in China.

On 3 July, the hazardous waste treatment project, SCIP Anyo SUEZ, with a total investment of RMB 450 million was successfully commissioned. The project is a partnership between SUEZ, Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), SAIC Motor, and SINOPEC Shanghai. With the addition of this new project, SUEZ’s total hazardous waste treatment incineration capacity in SCIP will increase from the current 120,000 tons/year to 160,000 tons/year. The project is a testimony to the strong partnership in hazardous waste treatment and resource recycling and serves as an important milestone for SUEZ and its partners in driving ecological transition.

SUEZ was part of the French business delegation that accompanied President Emmanuel Macron on his state visit to China, from 5 to 7 April. This visit will further strengthen ties between France and China, creating more opportunities for collaboration between the two countries. During this visit, witnessed by Ministers of both countries at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, SUEZ and its Chinese partners, Wanhua Chemical Group (Wanhua) and China Railway Shanghai Engineering Bureau Group (CRSH), signed a cooperation agreement for a seawater desalination project that will further expand their cooperation in the environmental sector, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
